Capitol Imaging Services shares an article that identifies five symptoms that should not be ignored and should be brought to the attention of a man’s medical provider. Often times, men have the most difficult time in bringing themselves to a medical professional for health care. They simply put it off, claim they don’t have time for it or that it just is not that important.

Men and doctors don’t mix?

At least that’s what a report by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) found. According to the report, men are 80 percent less likely than women to use a regular source of health care. Other research shows that half of men ages 18 to 50 don’t even have a regular source of health care. In fact, one national survey revealed that a third of men in that age group hadn’t had a checkup in more than a year, and 40 percent had never had their cholesterol checked.

The truth is, many men go to the doctor only when they feel sick or have a medical emergency — and that’s not nearly as often as they should. Regularly scheduled medical care is a big part of preventing cancer, high blood pressure, heart disease, and diabetes. Experts believe the failure of men and doctors to meet on a regular basis could be one reason why women live longer than men, and why men are more likely to get and die of serious diseases.

As with any cancer, prostate cancer caught early has an excellent prognosis. In fact, in many cases, prostate cancer is tracked through “active surveillance,” meaning that frequent check-up’s with the physician will determine whether the cancer has changed at all.

September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. The purpose of Prostate Cancer Awareness Month is to heighten the awareness of preventable health problems and encourage early detection and treatment of this disease among men.

Our specialized Prostate 3T MRI study

Our Capitol Imaging Services affiliate, Diagnostic Imaging Services, performs a specialized prostate 3T MRI study that is an excellent, even superior, alternative to a repeated prostate biopsy. As men who have undergone this type of biopsy will attest, the procedure is not something most, if not all, would want to repeat. Our specialized study is comprised of three components:

  • The ultra-high field 3T MRI
  • An advanced statistical analytical tool for further post-exam analysis
  • A radiology team approach to interpreting each study and providing comprehensive results to the referring physician
