Capitol Imaging Services provides information about an exam commonly performed as part of our women’s imaging portfolio: breast ultrasound.

Ultrasound is safe and painless, and produces pictures of the inside of the body using sound waves. During a breast ultrasound examination the sonographer performing the test may use Doppler techniques to evaluate blood flow or lack of flow in any breast mass. In some cases this may provide additional information as to the cause of the mass. Doppler ultrasound is a special ultrasound technique that evaluates blood flow through a blood vessel.

The primary use of breast ultrasound today is to help diagnose breast abnormalities detected by a physician during a physical exam (such as a lump or bloody or spontaneous clear nipple discharge) and to characterize potential abnormalities seen on mammography or breast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

Breast ultrasound is performed at several Capitol Imaging Services centers. Click here to send us a secure email requesting appointment assistance.

Capitol Imaging Services is the largest independent radiology practice in the southeastern United States, with locations from Texas to Florida, and growing. Our radiology practice not only performs the scan, such as an MRI or CT, but also provides the radiology expertise to review the images and issue the important findings to physicians and other qualified medical and healthcare providers. Typically, results of  an imaging exam are provided within one business day – sometimes sooner.

Capitol Imaging Services also often lowers out-of-pocket fees for people who need diagnostic testing. For those with unfulfilled health insurance deductibles, copayments or coinsurance, that’s a major benefit. The quality of care and testing is the same, if not better, than other imaging providers. Therefore, people can save money in healthcare without sacrificing quality.
