Millions of diagnostic exams are performed in the United States each year. However, planning and paying for these often-essential procedures can be confusing and sometimes much more expensive than they need to be.
If diagnostic exams were like most consumer products, you could simply compare CT scan prices online, come up with the funds, and make your purchase. Unfortunately, almost nothing in health care is that simple. It seems the “system” has made identifying prices much more complicated than it should be.
At Capitol Imaging Services, we’ve streamlined our processes and have done so for many years such that a person should be able to call our patient relations and communications department to identify the list price for the test. Then, by providing their insurance information, get benefits verified so that a dollar amount can be closely identified that would be the responsibility of the person who is having the test to pay.
In the climate of high deductible health plans, copayments and coinsurance, it’s important to do everything you can to identify costs BEFORE you have your test.
It’s also extremely important to know, “Is this price that I might have to pay include everything?” At hospitals, most often they add on fees for radiology services and perhaps the use of their imaging facility.
At Capitol Imaging Services, it’s one price for all services.

Capitol Imaging Services recommends that you obtain the CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) code for your exam. Your medical service provider should be able to provide that for you. It’s a universal five-character code used by all providers. With that code, you can identify any potential charges that would be your responsibility to pay.
Know before you go. We can’t stress that enough.
