We share a question that was posed online in a health-related forum:

“I just got an MRI (with contrast die) of my brain and my inner ear, what will it probably cost me? The procedure required two MRI technicians, 1 RN, and two Medical Doctors — time under the machine was 1 1/2 hours. — The Office manager would not tell me how much it cost. She said she would send me a bill after the Doctor’s report was done. — How much do you guess it will cost?”

We have two questions.

  1. Was this an emergency? If the answer is no and you were not able to get an answer to your question regarding the cost,
  2. Did you consider going elsewhere?

The time is here and now for people to embrace consumerism in healthcare. It is unacceptable to NOT BE TOLD THE PRICE of a medical service.

It’s your money. It’s your health.

Capitol Imaging Services does everything we can to practice price transparency. When you call to inquire about an exam, we can tell you the cost of the exam and any applicable charge you may incur due to the nature of your insurance coverage. If you are uninsured, we offers significant discounts on our fees in order for you to get the test you need.

Simple. Easy. Convenient.

How do you find out the cost of an imaging exam? By asking for and obtaining the Current Procedural Terminology or CPT code. It is a five character code that is universal across hospitals, health systems and independently owned providers. As an example, CPT code 70553 is an MRI of the brain with and without contrast.

Armed with that information (70553 MRI brain with and without contrast) and your health insurance plan information, a person can contact multiple providers and ask for the cost and charge. If a hospital or any other entity can’t provide that information, do you really want to go in blind and hope for the best when the bill arrives?

You are encouraged to call any of our Capitol Imaging Services affiliates and ask to be assisted in getting the financial answers you need. You can also visit our REQUEST A PRICE ESTIMATE tool to send us a secure email requesting a good faith estimate on any testing you may need.

Capitol Imaging Services often lowers out of pocket costs by performing exams at lower fees than other providers. For people with unfulfilled health insurance deductibles, that’s a major benefit. This benefit is enjoyed without sacrificing quality of care or testing technology.

Choose Capitol Imaging Services. We are doctor trusted and patient preferred.
