National Wear Red Day was on Friday, February 5, 2021. Every year, the first Friday of February has been dedicated to National Wear Red Day as an awareness day for American women to understand their number one health threat – heart disease.

Affiliate partners of Capitol Imaging Services participated in observing National Wear Red Day. If you visited our clinics, you may have seen our associates sporting their best red.

Two of our affiliate partners, Doctors Imaging in Metairie, LA and Bluebonnet Imaging in Baton Rouge, LA, perform echocardiograms. An echocardiogram is a test that uses ultrasound to show how your heart muscle and valves are working. An echocardiogram uses electrodes to check your heart rhythm and ultrasound technology to see how blood moves through your heart. A doctor can use the images from an echocardiogram to identify heart disease.

Why go red? Heart disease and stroke cause 1 in 3 deaths among women each year, killing approximately one woman every 80 seconds.  Fortunately, that can change because 80 percent of cardiac and stroke events may be prevented with education and action. By participating, Capitol Imaging Services continues to show our support for educational programs to increase women’s awareness and critical research to discover scientific knowledge about cardiovascular health.

National Wear Red Day has had a real impact. Since the inception of National Wear Red Day in 2003, nearly 90% of women have made at least one healthy behavior change, more than 50% have increased their exercise and more than 40% have checked their cholesterol levels.
