Go Red For Women and Diagnostic Imaging Services wants you to join us as we break the barriers against heart disease and stroke. Here’s how you can celebrate National Wear Red Day on Friday, February 2, 2018.
Why Go Red? Cardiovascular disease in the U.S. kill approximately one woman every 80 seconds. The good news is that 80 percent of cardiac events may be prevented with education and lifestyle changes. Go Red For Women advocates for more research and swifter action for women’s heart health.
It starts with you (us)
That’s why this year we are asking that you wear red on National Wear Red Day® and Donate to Go Red For Woman. By doing so you help support educational programs to increase women’s awareness and critical research to discover scientific knowledge about cardiovascular health.
Go Red For Women is a movement to get women to “Know Your Numbers.” It’s knowledge that could save lives. Five numbers, that all women should know to take control of their heart health are:
- Total Cholesterol
- HDL (good) Cholesterol
- Blood Pressure
- Blood Sugar
- Body Mass Index (BMI).
Knowing these numbers can help women and their healthcare provider determine their risk for developing cardiovascular diseases.
This coming National Wear Red Day, February 2, 2018, will mark 15 years since the initial National Wear Red Day, which was first observed to bring national attention to the fact that heart disease is the number one killer of women, and to raise awareness of women’s heart health. Looking back on all that has been accomplished, tremendous strides in women’s cardiovascular health have been made, including:
- Nearly 90% of women have made at least one healthy behavior change.
- More than one-third of women has lost weight.
- More than 50% of women have increased their exercise.
- 6 out of 10 women have changed their diets.
- More than 40% of women have checked their cholesterol levels.
- One third of women has talked with their doctors about developing heart health plans.
- Today, nearly 300 fewer women die from heart disease and stroke each day.
- Death in women has decreased by more than 30 percent over the past 10 years.
If you are visiting a Diagnostic Imaging Services location on February 2, wear red and show your support. For more information, visit https: www.goredforwomen.org and get involved.
