September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month.
The public’s understanding of the disease is increasing, including its prevalence, approaches to screening and prevention, treatment options, and resources that offer updated prostate cancer information throughout the year.
Prostate cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer in men and is a leading cause of cancer death in men, second only to lung cancer. Staying informed with the latest news on prevention and screening is an important step in reducing a man’s risk of developing prostate cancer. And, should a diagnosis occur, access to current, in-depth treatment information can help them find the best care.
Below is an eight minute presentation from the Prostate Cancer Research Institute Executive Director, Mark Scholz, MD, explaining how MRI in used in prostate cancer.
Louisiana: #1 in incidence of prostate cancer
The state of Louisiana has the unfortunate distinction of being the state in the Union with the highest incidence of prostate cancer. Among the top 10 were Mississippi (third), Alabama (eighth) and Georgia (ninth).
Fortunately, men in the state and Gulf South have an excellent option and alternative to seek in lieu of or before a prostate biopsy:
Multiparametric Prostate 3T MRI.
Our Capitol Imaging Services affiliate, Diagnostic Imaging Services, performs prostate 3T MRI at our Marrero, Metairie and Slidell facilities in southeast Louisiana. Men have traveled from neighboring states to visit Diagnostic Imaging Services for our prostate MRI service. Rather than undergo repeat biopsies, the MRI reveals any potential concerns, thereby providing doctors with a way to either avoid further biopsies or perform a more precise, pinpoint one.
Capitol Imaging Services is the largest independent radiology practice of its type serving the southeastern United States. Not only do we perform the scan, such as an MRI, but we also provide the radiology expertise to review test images and issue important findings to physicians and other healthcare providers.
Capitol Imaging Services: doctor trusted and patient preferred.
