At Capitol Imaging Services (CIS), we understand that when your doctor orders an x-ray, time matters. That’s why all CIS locations offering x-ray studies allow walk-in service—making it more convenient for patients to get the imaging they need, without having to wait days for an appointment.

But what does “walk-in” really mean? And what should you expect when you arrive?

Walk-In Doesn’t Always Mean Immediate

Walk-in service means you don’t need an appointment to receive an x-ray. However, it does not guarantee immediate service. Patients are typically seen on a first-come, first-served basis, and wait times can vary depending on the number of people ahead of you. This is especially important to keep in mind during busy times like lunch hours, when many people try to squeeze in imaging during their break.

If you need to be seen within a specific timeframe or have time constraints, we recommend calling the CIS location nearest you to schedule an appointment. This helps ensure your visit fits into your schedule without unexpected delays.

We always strive to keep wait times reasonable, but your patience is appreciated—especially when others may have arrived just before you.

A Doctor’s Order Is Required

Before you head to any CIS location for a walk-in x-ray, please ensure you have a physician’s order. X-rays must be medically justified, and our technologists are required to have a doctor’s directive in order to perform the study. Without it, we won’t be able to proceed with your imaging.

If you're not sure whether your provider has sent the order ahead of time, it's a good idea to bring a physical copy with you or confirm with your referring provider.

Occasional Delays Can Happen

While we do our best to provide walk-in service consistently, there may be times when this offering is temporarily suspended due to factors outside our control—such as technologist illness or emergency scheduling issues. We recommend calling ahead if you're making a special trip or traveling a long distance to confirm walk-in availability at your preferred location.
