Women with Medicare and Managed Medicare plans (i.e. Humana Gold, Choices 65, etc.) can choose the 3D mammography option for their screening without any additional fees.
For nearly four years, these plans also cover 3D in addition to the traditional portion of their mammogram. 3D mammography is also known as breast tomosynthesis.
There are several additional health insurance plan types that cover 3D mammography. Below are all the current plans that offer 3D screening mammography coverage at 100%. Please check with us as to if your particular health insurance plan type includes 3D coverage:
- Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Louisiana (HMO/PPO)
- Cigna
- Humana Gold
- Louisiana Health Care/Medicaid
- Medicaid
- Medicare
- Peoples Health Network Gilsbar (employee only)
- Peoples Health Network Medicare
For women who opt for 3D mammography, Capitol Imaging Services will continue to bill their insurance for the 2D part of the exam. The 3D option will have a $60 fee.
Millions of women now choose to get this form of a mammogram. The procedure is nearly identical to a routine mammogram, except that in mammography the machine is stationary, while in tomosynthesis it moves around the breast. Sometimes called 3D mammography, the test takes many x-rays at different angles to create a three-dimensional image of the breast. It was approved in the United States in 2011.
Touted as a superior mammogram, our Capitol Imaging Services, Diagnostic Imaging Services performs 3D mammography at our Covington – Highway 21, Marrero, Metairie – Veterans Memorial Boulevard and Slidell centers in Louisiana.
Capitol Imaging Services is the largest independent radiology practice of its type serving the southeastern United States. Not only do we perform the scan, such as a mammogram, but we provide the radiology expertise to review test images and issue important findings to physicians and other healthcare providers.
